Lean
- A methodology for improving process efficiency and speed by eliminating waste and reducing capital investment in a company by focusing only on activities that add value. AQI's Lean expertise includes value stream analysis of organizational processes and document value mapping expertise to reduce non-value added process and project documentation. Quality is Important

Back in 1979, Phillip Crosby contended that “Quality is Free” in his landmark book of the same name. He meant that quality pays for itself, many times over, and should be considered an essential aspect of business.  But quality is neither easy to achieve nor easy to maintain. It takes special disciplines and the right mindset. It requires trained practitioners who know how and when to apply the appropriate quantitative skills.

Quality cannot be added to a product like a new button on a webpage. Quality needs to be a core aspect of business, regardless of whether you are in manufacturing, engineering, financial services, retail or marketing/sales. Indeed, the cost savings associated with high quality are a significant competitive advantage in the long run.

However, you don’t have to reinvent the wheel or bootstrap yourself, if you want to start up a formal quality program. There are fast, effective, time-tested solutions to accelerate quality improvement, whether you need to start a program or just invigorate an existing one.

Quality Strategies
There are several problem solving and improvement strategies that can be used separately, or together, depending on the nature of the problem and desired timeframe for corrective action.
Problem Solving
Problems are primarily of two types:
(i) A "quality spill", corrective action for which is relatively straightforward and best executed by following the 8D (8 Disciplines) process, or
(ii) A more challenging and intractable problem requiring careful data analysis, interpretation, and corrective action using Six Sigma methods such as DMAIC.
Eliminating Waste
Lean Six Sigma (or simply "Lean") helps in eliminating waste and improving process efficiency by focusing on activities that add value.
Defect Reduction
The Six Sigma DMAIC methodology is most suited for reducing process variation and defects by defining the "right" problem, gathering data on current performance, root cause analysis, and identification and implementation of improvement actions.
Accelerated Improvement
The "Kaizen Blitz" method is most suited for starting and completing process improvement projects in a very short time, often requiring 100 percent dedication of resources to an intense improvement effort, typically lasting a week.
Process Redesign
The Six Sigma DFSS/DMADV methodology is appropriate for designing new products or processes, or redesigning existing ones when a "paradigm shift" is necessary - that is, incremental improvements to current process are not sufficient and breakthrough improvements become necessary.
Defect Prevention
The Six Sigma DFSS/DMADV methodology and tools and techniques such as Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), QFD, tabletop validation, and pilots can be invaluable in proactively identifying and resolving process problems before deploying a new or changed process.

Quality Environments

High quality is not just important in manufacturing. There are many different types of environments where quality processes and methods can be effectively applied. Quality is important in these other domains, as well. Quality systems are present and common in places like:

Manufacturing
Automotive
Aviation
Telecommunications
Medical Devices
Healthcare
Marketing
Retail
IT
Financial Services
